Why is the weather blocking my student's flight?
When a student flight is held up at check-in over weather, it's hitting the student weather minimums you set in scheduling settings — not a system error.
What's being checked
At check-in, the METAR for the location is compared against the student floors:
| Setting |
Role |
student_min_ceiling_feet |
Warn when the ceiling is below this |
student_block_ceiling_feet |
Block when the ceiling is below this |
student_min_visibility_sm |
Warn when visibility is below this (SM) |
student_block_visibility_sm |
Block when visibility is below this (SM) |
student_weather_block_mode |
warn or block |
Warn vs block
- In
warn mode, a below-minimums reading shows a caution but lets the instructor make the Go/No-Go call.
- In
block mode, a reading below the hard floor stops check-in — the flight can't dispatch until conditions come up.
What to do
- If the call is the instructor's to make, set
student_weather_block_mode to warn.
- If the floors are too tight, adjust the ceiling/visibility values in [[scheduling-check-in-and-weather-requirements]].
- Remember these are student minimums — they don't gate rated-pilot or rental bookings.
The weather reading uses the primary location's ICAO; confirm it's set correctly in [[scheduling-add-an-operating-location]].
