Why does the Document Assistant say a module is required?

Symptom: The Document Assistant page shows a Module required panel reading This feature requires the <module> module instead of the chat.

Cause

The Document Assistant depends on two modules. If either is off, the page blocks the chat and shows the panel.

  • If the AI module is off, the panel names AI: Enable the AI module to ask questions about your documents.
  • If the Knowledge Base module is off, the panel names Knowledge Base: Enable the Knowledge Base module to start asking questions about your documents.

The same Knowledge Base panel can also appear after a request if the backend reports the module is not enabled.

Fix

  1. Click Enable on the panel, or open Settings → Modules.
  2. Enable both the AI module and the Knowledge Base module.
  3. Return to AI → Document Assistant.
