How do I manage endorsements for booking safety?

Endorsements are instructor sign-offs that gate what a student can be dispatched in. They're enforced at check-in, so a missing endorsement stops a flight before it leaves the ground. Manage them at Scheduling → Endorsements.

Create an endorsement type

  1. Open Endorsements and go to the Endorsement Types tab.
  2. Click Create Endorsement Type.
  3. Give it a code (e.g. SOLO, COMPLEX, HIGH_PERFORMANCE) and set its Grants Permissions (comma-separated) — what holding the endorsement allows.
  4. Save. The type becomes available to grant to members.

How endorsements gate dispatch

When you check a flight in, the safety pre-check evaluates the student's endorsements. A required endorsement that's missing shows as a block in the endorsement category and stops check-in. See [[scheduling-why-cant-i-check-in]].

Granting an endorsement

Endorsements are granted to a student through the Endorsements & Sign-Off flow on the student's record — an instructor signs the endorsement off to the student. The Endorsements page is available to users with settings:manage or students:manage.
